Yurt Builder & Founder Matthew

Matthew started learning, dreaming and building Yurts in early 2008. Since then his life and love for Yurts, living sustainably and simple living have been tied together. Matthew views Yurts as a solution to our growing housing crisis, a pathway to a sustainable future and as an affordable solution to tiny house living.

Matthew was born and raised in Northern Ontario and owns his own small farm and homestead in Powassan Ontario where he strives to build a self sufficient and sustainable lifestyle. Matthew is familiar with the pressure society puts on us to live in bigger and bigger houses that require more maintenance, time, money and STUFF to fill it. Matthew believes this lifestyle is not only unfulfilling but detrimental to our mental health and happiness. These feelings led Matthew to start the Indigo Yurt Company in 2012 and offering workshops as a way to spread the knowledge of yurt building and living.

Matthew has a background as an engineering technologist and custom designs and builds each Yurt we offer. Because the Yurts we offer are of our own design, we can custom build a Yurt of any size and style if one of our standard Yurt sizes do not meet your needs or dreams.
